Paul Kenny said : “I am delighted to welcome Dr Stephen Hearns to Paramed UK Ambulance Service. He brings a wealth of healthcare experience to his new role as Medical Director. It’s an exciting time for Paramed UK, as we continue to work towards becoming the most advanced Ambulance Service in Scotland, and I’m sure that he will provide the existing team at Paramed UK with excellent clinical leadership.”
Stephen has acted as medical officer on seven international expeditions before establishing the first expedition medicine course in the UK. He has previously been an instructor on ATLS, ALS and PALS courses. Stephen finished his training with the London Helicopter Emergency Medical Service, developing experience in pre-hospital trauma care and aeromedical evacuation. Attempting to utilise this experience in Scotland, over the past four years he has helped develop the Emergency Medical Retrieval Service.
Stephen has published a number of papers and contributed a few book chapters related to these subjects. He is attracted to the clinical, psychological and physical challenges of retrieval and pre-hospital medical care in demanding remote environments with limited resources.

The Safe Bus will wheel its way into Paisley to act as a first point of contact for anyone vulnerable because they are drunk, have been injured or assaulted, suffered domestic abuse or are feeling emotional distress.
It will be staffed by officers from Strathclyde Police and the Renfrewshire Wardens service, while medical help will be available from Paramed UK experts, who will have an ambulance next to the bus.
Chief Superintendent George Nedley said: “Paisley town centre is busy with people enjoying themselves over the holiday period and our job is to keep them safe.
“Increased levels of alcohol make people more vulnerable, cause them to take risks they would not normally consider and increase the chance of being a victim of crime.
“The Safe Bus will be a visible presence in the High Street and will provide a place of safety for people who need it.”
